bowling

Bowling is an indoor game in which players roll balls along a runway called a lane or alley, attempting to knock down ten pins. Sometimes called tenpins, bowling is one of the most popular sports in the world.

Rules & Regulations :

A bowling ball must not exceed 27 in (68.6 cm) in circumference and 16 lb (7.3 kg) in weight; a bowling alley must be level and 41 to 42 in (104 to 107 cm) wide, measuring 60 ft (18.2 m) from the centre of the first, or head, pin to the foul line behind which the bowler must release the ball; bowling pins must be 15 in (38.1 cm) in height, with a minimum weight of 3 lb (1.4 kg).

How to Play :

The game is played by any number of contestants. If a player knocks down all ten pins with the first ball, the player is credited with a strike. If all the pins are knocked down in two rolls, a spare is scored; both strikes and spares gain bonus points for the player. Ten frames (full round of turns for each player) constitute a game; the highest score possible is 300.

Different Name :

Sometimes this game is called tenpins, and a variant of it, known as ninepins or skittles, is played in Germany and the Netherlands. The British Tenpin Bowling Association was formed in 1961. Other countries have similar organizations and the game is played to a high standard in Europe.
