Sania Mirza is the Indian tennis star with a sure eye catching style quotient. The current youth icon of India, Sania Mirza is honored with Arjuna Award recently. This prestigious award in India is given to achivers in sports.Born in City of Mumbai in India, and coming from Hyderabad, Sania Mirza, the youth icon of India is creating history in Tennis worldwide. She is the first Indian to get into Top 50 WTA Ranking.

Mirza won the 2003 Wimbledon Championships Girls' Doubles title, teaming up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.

In 2005, Mirza reached the third round of the Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Serena Williams

Mirza had the best results of her career during the 2007 summer hardcourt season, finishing eighth in the 2007 U.S. Open Series standings.

She represented India at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, in the women's singles and doubles events. In singles, she retired in the round of 64, while she was trailing 1-6, 1-2 against Iveta Benešová of Czech Republic.

Sania picked her maiden Grand slam title in the 2009 Australian Open The Indian tennis firmament seems to be shining brighter this year, first with Yuki Bhambri's win at the junior Australian Men's event and now with Sania Mirza-Mahesh Bhupathi winning the mixed doubles event at the Australian Open.


They won the finals against Nathalie Dechy (France) and Andy Ram (Israel) 6-3, 6-1. This was their second consecutive year in the finals, and followed a rather lacklustre year for Ms. Mirza. Their opponents were unseeded, and the match was won handily by the duo. This is the seventh Grand Slam title for Mahesh and the first for Sania.
