Volleyball

It is a popular team sport game. It is played by hitting an inflated ball back and forth over a high net. In the indoor game, each team has six players; teams of two players compete in beach volleyball, played outdoors on sand. In both variations points are scored by directing the ball into the opponent's court without it being returned successfully.
Court & Equipment : The volleyball court is divided into two equal sides by a net, height of which is 2.43 m (7 ft 11 5/8 in) for men, and 2.24 m (7 ft 4 1/4 in) for women.
The volleyball is an inflated sphere with a laceless leather or synthetic leather cover. Smaller and lighter than a basketball, the volleyball is 63.5 to 68.6 cm (25 to 27 in) in circumference and weighs 255 to 283 g.
Rules :
The players on a six-person volleyball team include three front-row players, who stand near the net, and three back-row players. The server stands anywhere behind the endline and hits the ball over the net into the opponent's court. Players use primarily their hands and forearms to hit the ball back and forth over the net. Play continues until one team fails to keep the ball in the air or commits a rule violation. A team must return the ball over the net after three hits. A point may be scored only by the serving team. The first team to score 15 points (with a lead of at least 2 points) wins the game. An indoor volleyball match consists of the best two out of three or three out of five games. Beach volleyball matches are usually one game.
Strategy :
On offence, players use the spike, a powerful smash over the net. A ball placed near the net for a team-mate to spike is called a set. On defence, players attempt single or multiple blocks. One or more front-row players jump on their side of the net with hands and arms raised to block a spiked ball. In the indoor game, a block does not count as one of the three allowable team hits.
